Why we love filming weddings on Super 8 film

Capturing the magic of your wedding day takes on a whole new dimension when documented on Super 8 film.

When Kodak introduced the Super 8 film format in 1965 it changed home movies forever. Filming home videos became accessible to the masses. For the past 10 years we’ve done our part to keep this timeless format alive. We were some of the first videographers to implement Super 8 footage into our wedding films, and we film on actual vintage cameras from the 1970s!

Filming wedding days on Super 8 is a deliberate choice for us as it adds an extra layer of artistry and timelessness to your wedding video. Watching the footage feels like you’ve discovered a lost home movie. The soft grain and inherent imperfections of the film create a visual poem.

Filming weddings in New Orleans on Super 8 is even more perfect. In one of the most historically and culturally rich cities in America, filming on actual film infuses even more magic into every frame, ensuring that your wedding video becomes a timeless ode to love and celebration.

A First Look that Left the Groom Speechless!

Sarah and Mike were hilarious. I don’t think 5 minutes passed throughout the entire day where one of them wasn’t laughing. So we clearly laughed a lot on this fun and carefree NOLA wedding day.

It’s also not every day that we meet people who are as obsessed with their dogs as me and Alee are with our fur babies. Sarah and Mike brought their pooch down from Connecticut and he was the star of the show. I’m pretty sure half of the footage Alee shot while they were getting ready was of this sweet pup.

Their first look left Mike absolutely speechless. He couldn’t say anything. He cried and laughed. It was perfect. Just like these 2.

Brooks Nader and Billy Haire's Winter Wedding in New Orleans

“Can you believe it?” -Brooks

“No” -Billy

These were the first words Brooks and Billy said when they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. Billy was crying (and so was Nathan).

When Brooks Nader first reached out to us to film her wedding we had no idea she was such a big deal! It’s a tad bit intimidating to film the wedding of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, but as soon as we met Brooks face to face her easy going and joyful personality put us at ease. Brooks and Billy are some of the kindest folks we have met in this city.

One of our favorite things at weddings is when the groom gives a speech thanking everyone for coming and professes his love for his bride. Billy did this perfectly. When he began to cry while describing his love for his new bride, I looked over at Alee and we both had tears in our eyes. We still get a little emotional just thinking about his speech. It was a reminder of why we love filming weddings so much.

Basically this was the perfect winter wedding in New Orleans. And it all ended with a fun second line to the after party at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.

Bailey and Justin's Texas Hill Country Wedding

You know people love you when you have to cut off the speeches at the rehearsal dinner because the restaurant is about to close. After spending the weekend with Bailey and Justin we realized why they’re so loved by their friends and family. Their love for each other and for other people is so captivating.

We had such a hard time narrowing down what soundbites to use for their film because there were SO MANY. From the rehearsal dinner speeches to their handwritten vows to the reception speeches. I hope we did their beautiful love story justice!

It was also so amazing working with Nicole, one of our brides turned incredibly talented wedding photographer. Check out her work below!

A New Orleans Streetcar Wedding

In Emily’s first email she told us they were going to do something a little different on their wedding day. She wanted to get married on a streetcar while it was moving. We were immediately hooked and wanted to capture what we knew would be a once in a lifetime experience. The day did not disappoint.

Even more exciting was the fact that Emily wanted her wedding day captured on Super 8 film. Most of her childhood home movies were filmed on Super 8, but they were mostly lost in Hurricane Katrina. Filming her wedding day on Super 8 would represent the start of new home movies and a new adventure.

Thank you, Emily and Trevor. Your day was unforgettable!

From New York to New Orleans for a Lovely February Wedding

Sammy and Nat escaped the New York February cold and came down to the Big Easy where the weather was magnificent. The perfect weather matched this perfect couple and their perfect wedding day. The celebration happened at Il Mercato which is one of the most beautiful venues in the city. Sammy and Nat were so laid back and relaxed which allowed us to capture genuine moments and emotion throughout the day. We are so thankful they chose us to capture such an important day in their lives.

A One of a Kind Fall Wedding in Austin

As you might know, Alee is also a super talented florist with Mitchell Willis whose work has been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings. Coby hired Alee to do her florals because they immediately connected with each other’s style and had the same vision of what Coby and Derek’s Austin, Texas wedding would feel like (and because Coby has great taste!). A few months after hiring Alee, Coby and Derek decided to hire me to film the wedding after seeing a film we did for their friends. We’re so grateful for their trust because it was such a wonderful day that we can now re-live forever!

A Destination NOLA Wedding at Race and Religious Wedding!

“Marriage is a commitment where 2 people can find and bring out the very best in each other.”

Amanda and Eric traveled to New Orleans from New Jersey for an amazing weekend at Race and Religious. Per usual Nathan cried as they read their handwritten vows that were filled with genuine raw emotion. Their wedding was New Orleans through and through with Cajun food, a second line, and even a tarot card reader. The Super 8 film added to the timeless nature of their love story. While they traveled to NOLA in January to escape the Jersey cold, it was actually pretty dang cold here in New Orleans this weekend so they moved the dancing inside and had an EPIC house party that lasted long past when we had already gone to bed.

Melonee and Alan's California Wine Country Wedding

It’s always so special when we get to film the wedding of people who are close to us. So you can imagine how honored we were to film Alee’s mom’s wedding at Annadel Estate.

As a filmmaker you always hear about the unbelievable beauty of California sunsets. We thought they could never live up to the hype, but we were totally wrong. In California it’s like magic hour lasts for 6 hours. It’s honestly like California photographers and filmmakers have an advantage over those of us in the rest of the world because their lighting is always perfect! We’re so thankful we finally got to experience it for ourselves on such a special day for our family.

Also be on the lookout in this film for the only known footage that exists of Nathan dancing at a wedding.

A Telluride Colorado Wedding at San Sophia Overlook

Allison and Chris love 2 things: each other and the mountains. So they decided to get married at their favorite place in all of the world, Telluride, Colorado. This small town was absolutely breathtaking with the most beautiful scenery we've ever encountered. We knew immediately after arriving why they chose to get married in these mountains. While the mountains were amazing, Allison and Chris were even more amazing. They were just so sweet and thoughtful. Their love is so genuine, and you could tell how truly happy their family and friends were for them. We wish they could get married again and again so we could relive this day constantly.
